The latest you want to get to the landing is a half hour before your boat is scheduled to leave so that we can get everyone situated and on the boats by the time they leave. Boats leave promptly at 4am and 6am. If you are going to be a little late, give us a call and we’ll try and hold the boat for you.
Please remember to bring some extra cash for the galley on the boats, fish cleaning, and for any tips you would like to leave the crew. If you can’t, there is an ATM located just outside our office.
Need directions? Check out the Contact page on our website (www.hookslanding.net). It has our address and a directions link on the map that is on the page.
Tickets for the boats cover fuel, crew, and bait. Rental rods are $15 per rental rod, but if you have your own, we encourage you to bring it and use it. If you need tackle, you’ll probably spend about $5-$10 on tackle, but again feel free to bring your own if you have it. For rockfishing, we’re using 2/o hooks and weights between 8oz and 12oz.
Fishing licenses are required by the California Department of Fish and Game for everyone ages 16 and up. No exceptions . We do sell the licenses here. There is a 1-day license available for $14.04, a 2-day available for $21.86, and a license for the rest of the year is $48.35 (that price includes the ocean enhancement stamp.) Again, we do sell fishing licenses here, but if you want to get it ahead of time, Big 5, WalMart, Sports Chalet, or other sporting goods stores should also sell them.
Don’t want to go on a boat and still want to experience the thrill of catching a fish? Hook’s Landing has a fishing dock available from just after the boat leaves (6am) to when we close (10pm). Dock fishing is $10 per person ages 13 and up. Kids ages 12 and under fish for free. Rental rods are $8 a rental rod, no matter the age of the person using it (and yes, kids of all ages do count as people).
Our rentals are still ready for you to rent. It’s a lot of fun for the entire family to cruise around the Channel Islands Harbor area and enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve been having. We would like to remind you that everyone under 18 on a surrey, deuce coupe, bike, or Segway is required to and must wear a helmet by California State Law and our insurance policies. Everyone 12 and under on an ElectraCraft is required to wear a PFD (personal flotation device) by the Coast Guard and our insurance policy. Children under 18 on any rentals MUST be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older. Please adhere to safety laws and guidelines, we don’t want to cause trouble with the police or the owners of the rentals. Bicycles are $10 per bike per hour and there are special half day (4hrs) rates for $20 per bike and full day (8hrs) rates for $40 per bike. Single surreys are $20 per hour and double surreys are $30 per hour. Deuce Coupes are $20 per hour. Segways are $40 for the first hour and $35 for every hour after, for up to 3 hours (that’s how long the battery lasts). ElectraCrafts are $65 for the first hour and $55 for every hour after and again the battery lasts 3 hours. If you want to cruise around the harbor for longer than that, you’ll need to come back and switch boats, which we will gladly help you with.
Is it too hot for you to handle? Got a sweet tooth you need to satisfy? Hook’s Landing now sells a variety of ice cream. Prices vary from $1.50 to $3.
Have you checked out our new website www.sportfishinginsider.com? If you know a landing that wants to advertise their boats and fish counts, let us know and we’ll get them started with us!
Do you have any good stories for us? Feel free to email them to us at info@hookslanding.net or share them on our Facebook page. We’re always looking for a good anecdote to share here on the blog, so don’t be shy and let us know a fun or funny story you have from when you went out on one of our boats!!!
Did you remember everything you need to go out on the boat? Make sure you don’t forget your fishing license, pole, gunny sack, rag, hooks, sinkers, seasickness pills, jacket, sunblock, sunglasses, and hat. If you’re missing any of those, our fully stocked tackle shop (supplied by Fish’n Fools) has what you need. Just a reminder, everyone. Both the boats have a full galley, but you are welcome to bring your own food if you need to. However, absolutely no outside alcohol, ice chests, or coolers are allowed on the boats.
Come prepared to fish for rockfish and surface fish. And if you don’t have equipment for either, remember that our fully-stocked saltwater tackle shop should have just about everything that you need.
